COO - CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Job Purpose:

Work with the Norway CEO and Nordic Region COO to ensure that financial goals are exceeded and Lockton principles are adhered to. The role will ensure compliance with all Norwegian statutory and regulatory obligations across the Norwegian companies with responsibilities for all matters Risk and Compliance, HR, Facilities, Technology and Operations. Working with the Norwegian CEO and Nordic Region COO, support the development and articulation of the Norway strategic plan and act as the principal reporting channel for Norway in respect of these strategic goals, financial performance, compliance and operational matters.  Support the establishment of consistency and best practices for the Norwegian businesses. Work collaboratively with the other Lockton business in the Nordic region to share best practices and where mutually agreed assist with the further development of a Nordic shared service function.

Key Short-Term Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Build strong working relationships with the office principles and appropriate resources.
  • Understand and take on responsibility for the Lockton Norway AS operational processes.
  • Review and align the regulatory and operational controls of the business with Lockton model office.
  • Engage with HR and Group IT to ensure all systems and controls are aligned and understood.
  • Take ownership of the local IT strategy and systems, including project management of local application development and integration.
  • As part of the above, work with the Nordic and European/UK shared service functions.
  • Work with Nordic Region COO to implement and manage the outsourcing arrangements in place.
  • Support the Norway CEO in promoting and supporting the implementation of the Lockton culture and values in the growing Lockton Norway team in all office locations.

 Medium Term and General Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Together with Nordic Region COO, ensure that strategic goals and objectives are achieved and aligned with the best interests of corporate goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that the Lockton Companies Operating Principles are understood and implemented locally.
  • Responsibility for the overall management of Norwegian operational risks which includes raising issues of adequate resourcing, 1st line business controls, operational business continuity, managing errors and omissions, and outsourcing agreements oversight to the Nordic Region COO.
  • Together with the Norwegian CEO and Nordic Region COO, be responsible for ensuring local business continuity, risk register, succession and other business critical plans are up to date.
  • Make sure that the applicable regulatory bodies’ principles for businesses and the commitments are understood by all associates and that these are implemented in line with Lockton International’s procedures and compliance regime.
  • Responsibility for ensuring effective implementation of 1st line controls within the Norwegian business to mitigate regulatory risks which includes financial crime, managing ARs/IARs, safeguarding information security, conflicts of interest and gifts & entertainment.
  • Together with the CFO responsibility for ensuring the budgeting process is conducted in an effective and timely manner for the Norwegian businesses and that the results are effectively incorporated into the business plan.
  • Together with the CFO responsible for monitoring financial performance and forecasting against budget, raising concerns where appropriate.
  • Support the Norwegian CEO and Nordic Europe Region COO in the production of the 5-year plan on an annual basis.
  • Management of local IT infrastructure and engagement with wider Group IT team to ensure the local IT environment and appropriate controls are operating effectively.
  • Improve operational efficiency through IT and process enhancements.
  • In conjunction with HR and local advisory firms (where relevant) coordinate any matters relating to employment, payroll and associate wellbeing.
  • Responsible for understanding, accepting and promoting the Lockton culture remaining consistent with the organisation’s philosophies and mission statement.

 Competencies

  • Ability to build and maintain good business relationships with clients, insurers and associates.
  • Knowledge of the resources available within Lockton and how to source such services.
  • Ability to identify developmental needs for Associates and to provide appropriate mentoring and coaching.
  • Effective delegation as appropriate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing with clients, insurers and other associates.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritise and ensure that deadlines are met without compromising quality.
  • Proven leadership and strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with Associates at all levels.
  • Ability to compile, analyse and interpret financial information and data to facilitate decision making.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, including the ability to resolve unusual and complex issues and then devise actionable solutions.
  • A thorough knowledge of Norwegian regulations and guidelines relating to both commercial and retail customers.
  • An understanding of local employment law
  • An interest and understanding of IT applications and processes.
  • A thorough understanding of and adherence to Lockton standards and procedures.
  • Ability to develop and implement internal controls and procedures to ensure the performance of Associates necessary for excellence in client delivery and satisfaction.
  • Ability to interview effectively and hire prospective Associates.
  • Professional and tactful negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve objectives.
